Cornell University is not generally known as a football school, but 1971 graduate Ed Marinaro helped put the school in the spotlight as one of the best players of his generation. A native of New York City who played his high school football in New Jersey, Marinaro was the NCAA’s leading rusher in both 1970 and 1971 and became the first collegiate ever to run for more than 4,000 yards in a career. He finished second to Pat Sullivan in the 1971 Heisman Trophy voting and then was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 1972 NFL Draft. After five years in the NFL, Marinaro turned his attention to acting, and his work includes roles on “Hill Street Blues,” “Sisters” and “The Edge of the Night.” A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Marinaro is married to fitness guru Tracy York.
