When he joined the cast of Bravo’s Top Chef, Ilan Hall had only been cooking professionally for three years, but he claimed that cooking professionally in New York for three years was like cooking professionally anywhere else for 20 years. Ilan went on to win season two of the show and be named America’s Top Chef. Growing up in Great Neck, New York, Ilan always knew he has a passion for cooking. As a teenager, Ilan worked at Marine Fishery, a local seafood store. He attended the Culinary Institute of America right out of high school, where he was trained by some of the nation’s greatest chefs. Over the next few years he worked at various restaurants throughout Manhattan, eventually landing at Casa Mono, a Spanish restaurant in New York City. After winning Top Chef, Hall moved to Los Angeles, where he opened his first restaurant, The Gorbals in downtown Los Angeles, which he still owns and operates today.
