Jacques Torres is known by most as the world’s best pastry chef. He grew up in France, where at the age of 15 he decided to pursue a career in cooking. He began a two year apprenticeship with a small pastry shop, where he graduated first in his class. Next he began an eight year stint with Jacques Maximin working at the Hotel Negresco, where learned several valuable skills to help his cooking career. Over the following few years Torres spent time working at numerous restaurants and pastry shops, until he accepted a job as the head pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton. Next Torres spent time as the Dean of Pastry Arts at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. For his next challenge Torres decided to open his own chocolate factory in Brooklyn, New York where he serves the retail, wholesale, and internet markets. In 2002 Torres decided to expand his venture by opening an additional chocolate store in New York City. Today, in addition to running his countless businesses and restaurants Torres also hosts his show Chocolate with Jacques Torres on the Food Network.
