Although Genevieve Gorder started small at Lewis & Clark College, she eventually transferred and graduated with a BFA in graphic design from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Before officially being known as a decorator, she first appeared as a commentator on the MTV series “Sex in the 90’s. She then became one of the original decorators of TLC’s “Trading Spaces.” During her time at Duffy & Partners in New York City, Gorder designed the bottle for Tanqueray No. 10 gin. She started becoming famous on “Trading Spaces” and quickly became known for her soulful designs and unique habit of working barefoot. She parodied her lack of footwear in a series of Swiffer sweeper comercials that ran on television and in periodicals in 2003. In addition to her role on “Trading Spaces,” she was a decorator for a spinoff show, “Trading Spaces: Family.” In 2005, she made-over many small American towns for her show “Town Haul.” On March 26, 2007 it was announced that Gorder would become the official spokesperson for Atlanta-based Floor and Décor Outlets of America, Inc. Gorder’s most recent project, “Dear Genevieve,” premiered on HGTV in January 2009. The program features Gorder solving design problems in-person for people who have written in to the show.
