Laurie Smith is a designer on the hit TLC show Trading Spaces. After spending eight seasons on the series and receiving multiple Emmy nominations, she has quickly established herself as an expert when it comes to interior design, as well as a fan favorite. So, while design is now her true passion, it wasn’t always; originally Laurie had dreamed of becoming an actress or a dancer. Combining her passion for performing with her interest in news at Southern Methodist University, Laurie decided to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. After graduating Laurie found herself working in the corporate world, first for a communications consulting company and then for a marketing firm. Eventually, she landed with TBS in Atlanta, and then spent a brief period of time with TNT. Laurie then moved to New York where she decided to attend the New York School of Interior Design. It was here that she discovered her true passion for design. After graduating, Laurie went to work for an interior design company in Jackson, Mississippi, where her work was eventually discovered by the producers at TLC. Working as a designer on Trading Spaces is the perfect fit for Laurie; it allows her to combine both her passion for design and performance.
