Born in Iran, but raised in the United States, Molavi earned his masters degree in Middle East history from John Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is author of the book Persian Pilgrimages: Journeys across Iran, which was nominated for the Thomas Cook literary travel book of the year, and often covers the Middle East for a wide range of international publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, BusinessWeek, and National Geographic.
