Luckily for Auto-Racing fans worldwide, Sarah Fisher grew up speed racing rather than immersing herself with other conventional pre-teen activities. When she was only 11 years old, she was already tearing apart the asphalt and showed the racing world the first glimpse of her abilities by taking the World Karting Association National Championship in 1991. With the support of her father and her dedication at an early age, she developed essential racing skills and continued dominating quarter midget and go kart racing. After winning two more WKA National Championships and being named Dirt Track Rookie of the Year in 1995, she went on to race sprint cars and began tackling a more competitive schedule. By 1999 she was ready to join the Indy Racing League and became the youngest person to ever pass the Indy Racing League Rookie Test.
Only a year after entering the IRL, she set milestones by becoming the third female driver ever to compete in the Indianapolis 500, where she placed third and earned the honor of being the first woman ever to stand on the podium. In 2002 she placed second in the Indy 500 resulting in the best finish by a female in the history of the sport. Her devotion to racing has also brought her the prestige of being voted the “Most Popular Driver” in the IRL for an unprecedented three consecutive years (2001-2003). Fisher has since entered the NASCAR Grand National Division where she raced for two years and finished 11th in the 2005 standings. She re-entered the IndyCar Series in 2006 and in 2007 was named on Sports Illustrated’s list of the Top 10 Female Car Drivers in the World.
