The first Andre Dawson appearance in Major League Baseball came in 1976 with the Montreal Expos. Dawsone took home Rookie of the Year honors in 1977 after batting .282 with 19 home runs and 65 runs batted in. 10 years later, Dawson smash 49 home runs and 137 RBIs to win the league MVP. In the time in between, Dawson became one of the most beloved figured in baseball. He patrolled center field for the Expos until his knees started giving him problems and he was forced to move to right. A couple more year in right field on the artificial turf of Olympic Stadium continued to damage his knees until he requested a trade to the cubs.
Strangely enough, although Dawson would eventually go on to become the league MVP that year, the Cubs owner refused to sign him. Finally Dawsone agreed to a much smaller contract and earned his money through bonuses for winning the NVP and being a starter in the All-Star game.

Although there has yet to be an Andre Dawson endorsement from the baseball hall of fame, Cubs teammate Ryne Sandberg gave a ringing Andre Dawsone endorsement when he said during his own induction speech, “No player in baseball history worked harder, suffered more or did it better than Andre Dawson.”
