As a two-time Academic All-American and member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, several scouts from different organizations observed Joe Nathan’s collegiate career. His jersey number has since been retired and he was awarded the University Medal, the highest recognition given by the university.
In 1995, as he entered the professional ranks, Nathan was drafted by the San Francisco Giants, and was traded to the Minnesota Twins, where he earned three All-Star selections as well MVP and Cy Young nominations.
There was also a Joe Nathan appearance as a member of Team USA to compete in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. In addition, Nathan was recognized as a three-time finalist for the “DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award.”
**Joe Nathan Speaker**
Aside from being able to discuss the honor of taking part in the inaugural World Baseball Classic, a good Joe Nathan speaker topic could be his transition from position player to pitcher. In fact, Nathan began his career as a shortstop and didn’t move into the pitcher’s role until he was in the minor leagues.
**Joe Nathan Appearance**
A Joe Nathan appearance in the minor leagues included playing for the Bellingham Giants, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, the San Jose Giants, and Shreveport Captains. His major league career started with the San Francisco Giants, and any current Joe Nathan appearance is as the closer for the Minnesota Twins.
