Known mostly as the best base-stealer of his era, Lou Brock was also a tremendous hitter who racked up more than 3,000 hits before heading off to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Born in Arkansas, Lou Brock started his baseball career with the Chicago Cubs and then was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1964 season. He made an immediate impact as he batted .348 with 38 steals, helping the Cardinals win the World Series that year. Over the next 15 years with the Cardinals, Lou Brock appeared in six MLB All-Star Games and helped the Cardinals win another world championship in 1967. Lou Brock led the National League in steals eight times during his career and he retired with an all-time record 938 steals, a mark that stood for more than a decade until Rickey Henderson surpassed it. Lou Brock’s #20 was retired by the Cardinals and he has also been inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Further proving how beloved he is St. Louis, a statue of him stands outside of Busch Stadium.
