A former right-handed pitcher, Orel Hershiser began his major league career on September 1, 1983 when he was called up from the minor leagues by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Many would say his breakout season came in 1985 when Orel led the National League in winning percentage, with a 19-3 record. Later in 1988, he led the league in wins with 23, innings with 267 and 15 complete games. That year he also won his first Gold Glove and was also selected as the Cy Young Award winner. Furthermore, his amazing season ended with a World Series championship and he was also named World Series MVP.

Orel played with the Dodgers through the 1994 season until he joined the Cleveland Indians in 1995; he helped the Indians reach the World Series for the first time since 1954. He was the MVP of the American League Championship Series and is the only player to be named MVP of LCS for both the American and National league.

Hershiser also played for the San Francisco Giants in 1998 and New York Mets in 1999 before he returned to the Dodgers for his final season in 2000. After retiring, he was a pitching coach for the Texas Rangers and has also been an analyst for ESPN.
