On August 3, 1997 Tommy Lasorda was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame; he was the 14th Hall of Famer to be elected as a manager. Following his induction, his uniform no. 2 was retired in a pre-game ceremony at Dodgers Stadium.

Tommy Lasorda has been affiliated with the Dodgers for over 50 years, as a player, scout, manager and now Vice President. He was the Dodgers manager for 20 years and during that time the team won 2 World Series championships, 4 National League pennants and 6 divisional crowns. He is also only the 4th manager to manage one team for 20 or more years. Throughout his career, Lasorda managed over 3000 games; he is the 2nd national league manager to win league titles in his first two years as a manager. Tommy Lasorda managed the National League in 4 All-Star games and was also a coach for 5 games.

During his long career, Tommy Lasorda also won many awards. He has won 3 manager of the year awards, and was the recipient of the first Milton Richman Memorial Award by the Association of Professional Baseball Players of America.
