Title: Basketball PlayerEven in high school Alonzo Mourning was dominating the hardwood. He led his Indian River High School team to 51 straight victories and a state title in his junior year. In college at Georgetown, Mourning led the nation blocked shots as a freshman and was named a college All-American three years in a row.
The first Alonzo Mourning appearance in the NBA came after being the second overall selection in the 1992 NBA Draft and going to the Charlotte Hornets. Mourning was selected second behind perennial NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal, and he would remain second to O’Neal during much of his professional career. That year he placed second to O’Neal in Rookie of the Year voting. And his career, after going through Charlotte, Miami, New Jersey, and Toronto, would bring Mourning back to the heat where he would play back-up center to O’Neal.
But Mourning never complained about his “second-fiddle” status with the Heat, and with the NBA veterans help, the Heat went on to win their first NBA Title in 2006.
Alonzo Mourning Speaker
One of the most inspiring stories for an Alonzo Mourning speaker appearance is his battle with focal segmental glomerular sclerosis, a life-threatening kidney disease. This disease forced Mourning to retire in 2003. However, thanks to his cousin, Mourning was able to receive a kidney transplant.
Alonzo Mourning Appearance
The first Alonzo Mourning appearance after his kidney transplant came in 2004 with the New Jersey Nets. However, he was never given the opportunity to succeed again with the Nets, so he requested a trade and eventually landed back in Miami to finish out his career.
