Before anyone had heard of two-sport stars like Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, there was Danny Ainge, who played Major League Baseball and then became a star in the NBA. A native of Oregon, Ainge was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and later the Boston Celtics. He tried his hand at baseball first, where he put up decent numbers after breaking into the big leagues at age 20. But when he switched to basketball, he really hit his stride as a member of the great Celtics teams along with Larry Bird and Kevin McHale. Ainge went on to play for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns before retiring in 1995. He deserves much of the credit for restoring the luster to the Celtics franchise and bringing in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to form a potent trio with Paul Pierce.
