Named after his father’s favorite watch, Elgin attended the small Idaho school (now called Albertson College of Idaho) for one year before transferring to Seattle University and leading them all the way to the NCAA championship game. Then it was on to the NBA, where he was named Rookie of the Year for the Minneapolis Lakers and became one of the team’s star players when they moved to Los Angeles. A complete player who could score, rebound and pass, Baylor was an obvious choice for the Basketball Hall of Fame and was also named to the NBA’s 35th and 50th anniversary teams. After a short stint as a head coach, Baylor moved into the front office and he has turned the once-lowly Los Angeles Clippers into an NBA playoff team.
