Isiah Thomas was one of the greatest guards to ever pick up a basketball. He was also one of the toughest players to lace up a pair of high-tops. Playing alongside Detroit’s Bad Boys in the 1980’s, Thomas had to have a rough side, or he couldn’t have been the great leader he was. His career started off on a high note making the All-Rookie Team and the All-Star Game. From there, he would go on to guide the team of tough guys like Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, and John Salley to three consecutive NBA Finals, winning back-to-back ones in 1989 and 1990. He also took the team to five straight conference finals appearances in that time.

Isiah Thomas’ most heroic and memorable performance will always be that of Game 6 in the 1988 Finals against the Lakers when he played on a badly twisted ankle in obvious pain and still scoring a record 25 points in one quarter. He couldn’t help the Pistons win the title that year, but drew on that experience to take them to those titles in the next two years. Thomas winded down his career and retired as a franchise leader in points, assists, games played, and steals. Making the All-NBA team three times during his career, it was very expected, but still extremely honorable when he was named to the list of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players and then voted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, 2000.
