1999 finally brought a Joan Crawford appearance where it belonged: the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Crawford ranks as one of the greatest players in the history of women’s basketball; however, her story has gone untold for many years because her reign as queen of the women’s game took place during an age when basketball was still not a dominant American sport, and women’s basketball was even less heralded. Despite this lack of publicity, Crawford still managed to dominate the AAU circuit for fourteen seasons throughout the 1950s and 1960s, being named to thirteen consecutive AAU All-American teams.
