The “Big O,” Oscar Robertson, was one of the best, if not the best, all-around players in the history of professional basketball. First with the Cincinnati Royals and then the Milwaukee Bucks, Robertson earned 12 all-star awards and remains the only NBA player to ever average a triple-double (more than 10 points in points, rebounds and assists) for a complete season. No player was more versatile or complete. The Big O has also made a name for himself off the court, first by taking on the NBA to reform the rules governing the draft and free agency, and then since his retirement as a spokesman for many worthy causes. In 2000, he was named Player of the Century by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and he appears in the top five of virtually every list of all-time great players. And of course he is a member of the pro and college basketball halls of fame.
