Biography

A Van Chancellor appearance on the sidelines for the University of Mississippi Lady Rebels lasted 19 seasons. During that time, he led the Lady Rebels to the NCAA Tournament 14 times, as well as 11 straight appearances from 1982 to 2007 and posting an overall record of 439-154. His teams won at least 20 games 15 times, including 31 wins in the 1978 to 1979 season, a school record. The Lady Rebels under him had 13 top 20 final ranking appearances, four of which were top 10 finishes.

Ole Miss made four NCAA Elite Eight appearances under Chancellor, while his teams made the Sweet 16 on three other occasions. Chancellor was a three time Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year, winning one of the awards in 1992 when the Lady Rebels won the SEC regular season title with a perfect 11-0 mark. He was also named the 1992 National Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball News Service.

There was also a Van Chancellor appearance serving as WNBA’s Houston Comets head coach for 10 years, where he led the team to the league’s first four titles from 1997 to 2000. A three time WNBA Coach of the Year, he made the team the only one to make the playoffs in each of the first seven seasons of the league. His 1998 Houston Comets team has the highest winning percentage in the history of both the NBA and WNBA. The winningest coach in the history of the WNBA, Chancellor also coached the Western Conference All-Star Team three times during his career and was named the coach of the WNBA’s All-Decade Team in June 2006.

As head coach of the US National Team, Chancellor has recorded a perfect 38-0 record in international competition, with his teams winning the gold at the 2002 Opals World Challenge, the 2002 FIBA World Championships, and the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Van Chancellor has also served as LSU head coach, leading the Lady Tigers to an SEC championship and to the Final Four, as well as winning the 2008 SEC Coach of the Year award.

Van Chancellor Speaker

In addition to coaching, there was a Van Chancellor speaker experience as a television analyst for women’s college basketball, working for both ESPN and SEC-TV.

Van Chancellor Appearance

Thanks to his status as one of the best coaches in the history of women’s basketball, a Van Chancellor appearance will deliver a perspective on the game few other coaches, players, or analysts can match.

Van Chancellor Endorsement

While Chnacellor spent many years at the college level, the true Van Chancellor endorsement is his perfect record as the head coach of the women’s national team.
