His brilliant rookie campaign geared him up for an even more brilliant NBA career, playing in 81 games and averaging 24.2 points per game in his first season. For this, he won the 1978 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and earned himself a position on the All-NBA Second Team. Over his first ten seasons, Davis became part of six NBA All-Star Games.
There was a Walter Davis appearance on the USA men’s basketball team that won the gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He also played for the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers, and has served as a scout for the Washington Wizards.
