Biography

Every professional Wes Unseld appearance came, in some capacity, as a member of the Washington basketball franchise. However, during that long stint, the name of the franchise changed, the location changed, and Unseld’s role changed.

Unseld began his professional career in 1968 as the first round pick (and second overall) of the Baltimore Bullets. Unseld immediately helped the Bullets, leading them from last place in the Eastern division the previous year to a 57-25 record and a division title. Unseld averaged an impressive 18.2 rebounds per game that year and became only the second player in league history to win both Rookie of the Year honors and Most Valuable Player honors in the same season.

Unseld’s playing career with the Bullets led them to four NBA Finals including an NBA title in 1978 over the Seattle SuperSonices. He would never play for another professional team, retiring from the Bullets in 1981 and having his #41 jersey retired.

Unseld went on to become vice president of the Bullets for six years, and, in 1987, he was named head coach. However, despite lasting seven years, his head coaching career did not go as well as his playing career, and he resigned in 1994. In 1996, Unseld became Washington’s general manager, but even in that role, Unseld only helped guide the team to the playoffs once.

Wes Unseld Speaker

Although his leadership career was not as successful as he would have liked, a Wes Unseld speaker appearance can still focus on his remarkable playing career and his roll in delivering an NBA Championships to the Baltimore/Washington franchise.

Wes Unseld Appearance

There was a Wes Unseld appearance in five NBA All-Star games. There was also a Wes Unseld appearance on the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Wes Unseld Endorsement

Today, the most passionate Wes Unseld endorsement is for children. Unseld, along with his wife and daughter, teaches at a Baltimore private school he and his family operate.
