Emanuel Steward is a highly regarded boxing trainer and successful amateur boxer. Over his amateur boxing career Steward compiled an impressive record of ninety-five wins and only three losses, including a win in the 1963 National Golden Gloves tournament, in the bantamweight division. After winning the Golden Gloves Steward retired from boxing, but later returned as a trainer for his half brother James, at Kronk Recreation Center. He then accepted a part-time position as head boxing coach at Kronk, where he led the team to seven titles at the 1971 Golden Gloves. By the mid 1970’s Steward had helped build Kronk into a national powerhouse for amateur boxing, coaching several fighters to world titles. Today, Steward is a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame, as well as the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He also works part time as an analyst for HBO, and has also performed boxing trainer roles in television shows and movies.

Since he first joined Kronk Recreation Center in 1970, Emanuel Steward has been working to get teens off the streets and into sports. He recently opened a second location for Kronk in his hometown, where he hopes to continue to inspire kids to get involved in athletics.
