Jim Lampley is considered by many to be the best blow-by-blow broadcaster in all of boxing. Over his career he has been a sportscaster for several television programs, including a record fourteen Olympic Games, but he is best known for his work with HBO World Championship Boxing. As commentator of the show he has called some of boxing’s most famous moments, including when Julio Cesar Chavez saved himself from a decision defeat by knocking out Meldrick Taylor with only seconds to go in the last round, James Douglas’ upset of Mike Tyson for the world heavyweight championship, and the famous miracle comeback of George Foreman when he knocked out Michael Moorer to end Moorer’s reign as champion. In addition to World Championship boxing, Lampley has also hosted pay-per view boxing for HBO, fourteen consecutive Summer Olympic Games, beginning with Barcelona, and the annual coverage of the Indianapolis 500 and Wimbledon.
