Raised on the tough streets of Brooklyn, Riddick Bowe fought his way out of poverty to become one of the top boxers of the modern era. After winning more than 100 amateur fights and a silver medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Bowe turned pro and quickly moved up the list of top contenders. Then in November 1992 he took on champion Evander Holyfield and won a 12-round decision to capture the IBF, WBA and WBC Heavyweight titles and become the undisputed champion of the world. Bowe is also remembered for his two fights against Andrew Golota. Bowe won both of those bouts by disqualification after suffering a succession of low blows from Golota. Bowe retired from boxing in 1996 and then made a brief comeback in 2004 before announcing that he would start a new career as a mixed martial arts fighter.
