After a boxing injury forced him into an early retirement, Teddy Atlas found his true calling in the ring as a trainer for the sport’s biggest stars. A native of Staten Island, Atlas turned to coaching after his amateur boxing career ended in 1976. Since then he has trained a roster of champions that includes Mike Tyson, Michael Moorer, Donny LaLonde and Barry McGuigan. Atlas made such a mark on the boxing world that he became a fight consultant for films and television shows, even popping up on the silver screen in several. He appears regularly on boxing broadcasts as a fight commentator for ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” and the NBC telecasts of the Summer Olympic Games. In 2007, Atlas was hired by his favorite National Football League team, the New York Jets, to train players using boxing techniques.
