You might know him as “Pony,” but off the gridiron, Craig James is a memorable football analyst and broadcaster. The former Southern Methodist tailback was teamed with Eric Dickerson to form the famed “Pony Express.” After being named first-team All-Southwest Conference, James played for the USFL’s Washington Federals and the NFL’s New England Patriots. After moving to the NFL, he garnered such team awards as Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, and also won the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year once. With such gratifying rewards, there was no surprise when he drove the Patriots to Super Bowl XX, and started in the 1986 Pro Bowl.

Retirement usually means slowing down, but for Craig James, it was just a new chapter to his already successful career. Following his 1988 departure from the NFL, James became a studio analyst for ESPN’s “College GameDay” and “College Football Scoreboard” programs, college halftimes and “NFL PrimeMonday.’ James has spent the last two years as an analyst for CBS Sports’ NFL pre-game studio show, THE NFL TODAY, and will team with Kevin Harlan as the CBS Television Network’s No. 3 NFL announce team beginning fall 2008.
