In 1982, a Kevin Harlan broke into broadcasting by being the TV and radio voice of the NBA’s Kansas City Kings. He also served as basketball announcer for his university for one year before he began calling games for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs from 1985 to 1993. During this time, Harlan also spent time calling football and basketball games for the University of Missouri. He also spent nine seasons as the play-by-play voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA.
In 1994, Harlan became an NFL announcer for Fox Broadcasting Company. In 1996, he joined Turner Sports for the NBA playoff games coverage. The following year, he began calling games throughout the entire season.
Harlan’s broadcasting experience also include calling Green Bay Packers preseason games, Goodwill Games basketball games, NFL games on CBS, college sports on ESPN, and numerous bowl games during college football season. He was also the voice of Westwood One Radio’s Final Four coverage until 2008.
These days, a Kevin Harlan appearance is usually as an NFL broadcaster and college basketball games on CBS. Harlan also does play-by-play work for the NBA on TNT and co-hosts “Crunch Time” on WHB-AM with broadcast veterans Dave Stewart and Frank Boal.
