During the 16 years Barry Switzer led the University of Oklahoma Sooners to three National Championships, and they won more games than any team in the NCAA football category.

In 1994, Switzer became the new head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He compiled a 40-24 record in four seasons with the Cowboys. Switzer guided the Cowboys to NFC East titles in each of his first three seasons and won Super Bowl XXX following the 1995 season.

Prior to the Cowboys, Switzer had no NFL experience whatsoever. However, he came through and was the right person at the right time to help Dallas gain recognition and fame.

After a depressing 6-10 season that ended with five straight losses, Switzer decided to step down from Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. It was the first losing record for the Cowboys since 1990. Switzer deeply felt that a new turn around was what the organization needed to get back on top. “I am deeply proud of what our players and coaches have been able to accomplish. A Super Bowl championship and three division titles are a source of great pride for this organization and its fans.”

The Barry Switzer Center, a $5.57 million building which houses a new weight room, a training room, coaches offices and a ”legends hall” to honor former OU athletes in all sports was dedicated on the University of Oklahoma campus in his honor in 1999.
