Bobby Knight is arguably the most famous coach in college basketball and also one of the most successful. As a head coach, Knight has won more games in NCAA Division I play than anyone else, but his intense behavior has also made him more than controversial. Born in Ohio, Knight played basketball in high school and later at Ohio State University. He coached high school briefly before moving to Army, first as assistant coach and later as the head coach. In 1971, he was hired as the head coach at Indiana University where he began a 29-year tenure marked by three national championships, 11 Big Ten Conference championships, four National Coach of the Year awards and arguably more controversy than any other coach in history.
Knight moved to Texas Tech University in 2001 and revitalized the Red Raiders team as very few, if any besides Knight, could. Despite many controversial incidents during his career, his players always stood up for him, stating that his no-nonsense style has made them better players and better people.
