Title: Football Coach & Former QuarterbackAs a member of four different Halls of Fame, Danny White is a living legend in Arizona. The 2007 season marked White’s 15th year as an Arena Football League head coach, and his second season as coach and general manager of the Utah Blaze. His successful coaching abilities rooted from his astonishing career as an all-star quarterback.
White served as the first head coach and general manager of the Arizona Rattlers until 2004. He was named Arena Football League Coach of the Year in only his second season as head coach (1993). In 13 seasons, White led the Rattlers to ArenaBowl berths in 1994, 1997, 2002, 2003 and 2004, emerging as the ArenaBowl Champions in 1994 and 1997. White finished his career with the Rattlers with an overall record of 141-65 ranking him No. 2 all-time in Arena Football history. With his successful coaching strategies, White became an inductee for the Arena Football Hall of Fame class of 2002.
One of the finest motivators of the game, White’s coaching style has proven to be extremely successful over the years. White began his playing days at Arizona State, and continued through his professional career with the Memphis Southmen of the World Football League, and then in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. White’s leadership skills as a quarterback were evident when he broke the Cowboys’ single-season touchdown record in only his first year as a starter. Things only sped up as the Cowboys went to the playoffs five times and won three NFC East titles under White’s direction.
Danny White has an intense desire for excellence as displayed throughout his career as a player. White set seven NCAA passing records in his four years as a Sun Devil. In 1973, his passing and running game placed him second in the nation in total offense. Sports Illustrated even named White as the second-best rated collegiate quarterback of all-time. In 1997 White received his first Hall of Fame recognition from both the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. In addition to the AFL Hall of Fame and the NCAA Hall of Fame, White has been inducted into the State of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame and the Arizona State University Hall of Fame where his jersey was retired.
