For 25 years, Dennis Green was a fixture on sidelines as the head coach of some top college and professional football teams. A native of Pennsylvania, Green played college ball with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and later the Canadian Football League’s British Columbia Lions. After earning his stripes as an assistant coach at Iowa, the University of Dayton and Stanford University, Green took over head coaching duties at Northwestern University in 1981 and made history as the second African-American coach NCAA Division I-A football. Green returned to Stanford as the head coach in 1989 and made the jump to the NFL as the leader of the Minnesota Vikings in 1992, again making history as the second African-American coach in the NFL. By 1998, Green had made the Vikings the highest-scoring team in the NFL and nearly took them to the Super Bowl. After spending two years at ESPN, Green was hired in 2004 by the Arizona Cardinals and stayed for two seasons. He currently serves as color analyst on the Westwood One Thursday night NFL broadcasts.
