With more wins than almost any coach in college basketball history, “Tark the Shark” had lead many teams to victory. Known for his unique and lively behavior, he has been the coach for both collegiate teams, as well as briefly in the NBA. He began his career with Long Beach State in 1968, however he gained recognition for his time coaching for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 1973-1992. Tarkanian’s teams are best known for their excellent defense.

Jerry Tarkanian has a 990-228 career coaching record across all college divisions. In addition, he has led three different college teams to have 20 win seasons. While with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he was able to take them to the Final Four four times. In 1990 the Runnin’ Rebels were victorious and became national division one champions, as well as set a record for margin of victory in a championship game.
