When Jim Tressel made the jump from the head coach of Youngstown State University to head coach of the Ohio State University Buckeyes, many wondered if he could handle the transition from Division 1-AA to a Big Ten powerhouse. Well, it’s safe to say that he handled it just fine, as he guided Ohio State to a perfect 14-0 record and a national championship in 2002. Since then the Buckeyes have remained a national title contender, and almost as importantly have consistently defeated the Michigan Wolverines, their biggest rivals.

Born and raised in Ohio, Tressel played quarterback at Baldwin-Wallace College and graduated with a degree in education. After a few assistant coaching jobs, he took over the Youngstown State program and won four national titles with the Penguins before he got his big shot with the Buckeyes in 2001. Once he is done coaching, Tressel seems to be an obvious choice for the College Football Hall of Fame.
