Jimmy Johnson is well known for two things – his immaculate hair and winning. Of course the winning part is a bit more important, and he’s done it everywhere he has been. The native Texan played college football at Arkansas, where he won a national championship as a lineman. He got his first head-coaching job at Oklahoma State and then moved on to the Miami Hurricanes. At “The U,” Johnson made a name for himself with a 52-9 record over five years, including a national championship in 1987. Despite all his success in college football, the challenge of the NFL still loomed, and Johnson’s former college teammate Jerry Jones lured him to coach the Dallas Cowboys. As the replacement for the legendary Tom Landry, Johnson didn’t exactly get off to a good start as a pro coach as the Cowboys went 1-15 in his first season. But with stars like Troy Aikman, Emmittt Smith and Michael Irvin, the Cowboys turned into a juggernaut and won the Super Bowl in 1992 and ’93. A rocky relationship between Johnson and Jones bubbled over after the second Super Bowl win, and Johnson moved into broadcasting and then coached the Miami Dolphins for three seasons before taking another TV job. Now an analyst for FOX Sports, Johnson and his legendary hairdo are showcased every Sunday afternoon.
