The Texas Longhorns football program has a rich and storied history with three national championships from 1963 through 1970, but until Mack Brown arrived on the scene in 1998 the proud program had slipped a bit. A graduate of Florida State, where he also played running back, Brown launched his coaching career in 1979 at Iowa State and held a variety of positions before taking over as head coach at North Carolina in 1988. He didn’t exactly get off to a strong start with two consecutive seasons with a record of 1-10, but he eventually built that program into one of the ACC’s best teams and a bowl contender. Brown came to Austin in 1998 and while he only had modest success in the first three seasons, he now has a streak of seven consecutive 10-win seasons, including the perfect 13-0 season that ended with Vince Young’s touchdown to win the Rose Bowl.
