For decades the Cincinnati Bengals were barely competitive in the NFL and they basically became a running joke with seven seasons of four or fewer victories from 1991 to 2002. He continued to excel at Idaho State University, where he is now a member of the Idaho State University Sports Hall of Fame for his outstanding play as a linebacker. After graduating, he held several positions as a linebackers coach before taking over as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. Then he spent one season with the Washington Redskins before being named the head coach of the Bengals.
