Until the 2007 NFL season, the knock against Norv Turner was that he never had much postseason success despite being a great offensive coach. And while that is somewhat of a flawed criticism anyway (after all, he did win two Super Bowls as the offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys), Turner put all that to rest by nearly taking the San Diego Chargers to the Super Bowl in his first season there. Even though the Chargers struggled early in the season, they came on strong and gave the New England Patriots all they could handle in the AFC Championship Game. The two victories by the Chargers in the playoffs marked the first for the franchise since 1994. And with plenty of talent in Philip Rivers and LaDainian Tomlinson, the Chargers figure to be a Super Bowl contender for many years.

Born in North Carolina, Turner played quarterback at the University of Oregon before getting his first coaching job at USC. Then he moved to the NFL as an assistant before taking the head coaching job with the Washington Redskins, where he stayed for seven seasons. And after two years with the aging and somewhat lacking in talent Oakland Raiders, Turner is flying high again with the Chargers.
