When you think about Auburn football, it’s hard, or rather impossible, not to think of Coach Pat Dye. As the head coach of the Tigers for more than a decade from 1981 to 1992, Dye compiled an impressive record of 99-39-4 with four SEC titles and a National Coach of the Year Award in 1983. In nearly 20 seasons of coaching college football, including time at East Carolina and Wyoming, Dye had just two losing seasons and his bowl victories include the Sugar Bowl, Peach Bowl and Citrus Bowl. Still revered as a legend among Auburn football fans, Dye was honored in 2005 before the annual Iron Bowl rivalry game against Alabama. Among the ceremonies that day was the christening of Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the home of the Tigers. Dye, who was a defensive guard in his college days at Georgia, is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
