For more than 15 years, Phillip Fulmer has been the face of Tennessee football. And in every season except one, Fulmer has taken the Volunteers to a bowl game, including a perfect 13-0 season in 1998 that ended with a national championship. That same year, Fulmer won the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award and the Home Depot Coach of the Year Award. As one might expect, Fulmer was born and raised in Tennessee, and he played offensive guard for the Volunteers from 1968-1971. After graduation, he spent time at Wichita State and Vanderbilt before returning to Tennessee as an assistant coach and then offensive coordinator. He took over as head coach in 1992, and whenever he decides to retire he’ll surely receive strong consideration for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
