Title: UNC Basketball Head CoachRoy Williams’ brilliant athletic career started in high school, where he lettered in basketball and baseball. He was named all-county and all-conference for two years, all-western North Carolina in 1968, and served as captain in the North Carolina Blue-White All-Star Game. Williams went on to play basketball in college under legendary coach Dean Smith.

In 1988, Williams left UNC and became the head coach at the University of Kansas. All of William’s Kansas teams made the NCAA tournament, except for his first season when the team was on probation. Under his regime, Kansas won nine regular-season conference championships, four Big 12 Conference regular-season titles, two postseason tournament crowns, and other various awards. He was also second all-time for most wins at Kansas and third all-time in the NCAA for winning percentage.
In 2003, Williams returned to UNC and became the 18th basketball head coach. That same year, he received the John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award from the Los Angeles Athletic Club. He coached UNC to a National Championship in 2005 and two ACC titles. In April 2007, he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame. He is also a two-time Associated Press Coach of the Year.
