Steve Spurrier has nearly done it all in the world of football. After winning the Heisman Trophy in college, Spurrier played in the NFL and eventually went on to coach at both the college and pro level — including a National Championship season with his alma mater, the Flordia Gators.

In college, Spurrier was the Florida Gators starting quarterback and was also voted first team All-American in 1965 and 1966. In 1967, Spurrer was selected as the first round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers.

After a 10 year career as an NFL quarterback and being inducted into the National Collegiate Football Hall of Fame in 1986, Spurrier decided to become a college football coach. During his three year tenure as a coach for the Duke Blue Devils, Spurrier led the team its first ACC Championship. He then took over the football program at his alma-mater, The University of Florida.

Steve Spurrier turned around the Florida football program and during his first year as coach, he finished with a record of 6-1. The next year, the Gators went on to win 5 SEC Championships and the school’s very first National Championship in 1996.
