As the son of college football coaching legend Bobby Bowden, you had to figure that Terry Bowden would get into his father’s profession. However, the Bowden name could only get his foot in the door; it couldn’t automatically win him any football games. But in more than 15 years of coaching, Terry Bowden compiled an impressive record of 111-53-2 with Salem College, Samford, and most notably, the Auburn Tigers. It’s even possible he could have won a national championship with Auburn in 1993 when he guided them to an 11-0 record, but the team was not bowl-eligible because of NCAA violations committed by a former coach. Although he hasn’t coached in a decade, Bowden has hinted that he wants to return as a head coach, and there are sure to be some interested schools when he throws his name out there. Until then, Bowden continues to do broadcasting work for Westwood One Radio and he also contributes a college football column to Yahoo! Sports.
