Stephanie Gilmore began to love the waves at the age of 10. By the age of 17 she was joining surfing world tour events. Her first victory came in 2005, when she won at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast. The following season, she won the Havaianas Beachley Classic as a wildcard competitor again. Her successful performance at the WQS tour earned her a spot at the 2007 Foster’s ASP Women’s World Tour, where she won four events as well as the 2007 World Title.
The 2007 season was her rookie year, but she managed to bag the Foster’s ASP Women’s World Title, where the title race came down to the Billabong Pro Maui, the last event of the season. Winning three events in 2007, Gilmore was qualified to enter the Billabong Pro Maui, where she ranked first in the final event. Her other wins for 2007 came at the Mancora Peru Classic, the NAB Beachley Classic, and the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.
