Tony Hawk is a professional skateboarder who gained significant fame when he became the first person to ever land a 900 in competition. The extremely difficult trick involves completing two and a half revolutions while in the air. Over his career he has won nine Summer X Games competitions in various skateboarding events, and has received silver in three. In 2002, Hawk decided to start The Jam, which is a small competition held in Las Vegas each year that features competitions in motocross, skateboarding, and BMX. Hawk claims that none of his skateboarding success could have been possible if it weren’t for the help of his brother and father. When he was only eight, Tony’s older brother bought him a used skateboard and his father constructed a ramp in the family’s backyard. Since then it’s been hard to get Hawk off the skateboard. He began competing in competitions at the age of eleven, and quickly turned pro by only fourteen. In addition to being the most well-known skateboarder of his time, Hawk is also famously known for his extreme video game series that are released each year.
