Father of Super bowl winning Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning and New York Giants quarterback, Eli Manning, Archie is not only famous through this current day association, but he has quite a record of his own.
Archie Manning was named the quarterback of the Southeastern Conference 25 Year Team from 1950 to 1975 and the All South Team from 1940 to 1990. In 1971, he was the second player picked in the NFL Draft, selected by the New Orleans Saints, as well as being drafted four times by various Major League Baseball teams.
He eventually switched to play with the Minnesota Vikings until 1985 when he retired. Archie Manning was the League’s Most Valuable Player in 1978 and participated in two Pro Bowls. Manning continues to hold the most passing record for the Saints.
Manning was voted quarterback of the 25 Year All Saints Team and voted Most Popular Saint in franchise history. Manning has also been praised by various Louisiana and Mississippi hall of fames. In 1992, Manning was voted Mississippi’s All-Time Greatest Athlete.
Archie Manning was recently named the quarterback for The Team of the Century at the University of Mississippi, an extremely high honor to receive.
