Wiley began staring at football in high school, where he was an All-Conference pick. He then went on to college to play tailback, defensive end, and kick returner for Columbia, earning the honors of first team All-American and being a pick for the All-Ivy League team.

Selected with the 22nd pick of the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, Wiley started his pro career as a situational pass rusher with nine sacks through his first three years. Wiley spent four seasons with the Bills before joining other teams such as the San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
