Few players in the history of the NFL had the lethal combination of running ability and pass-catching skills like Marshall Faulk. In his 11-year NFL career, Faulk rushed for more than 12,000 yards and tacked on nearly 7,000 receiving yards with 136 touchdowns. Faulk put up some amazing numbers in college at San Diego State University, where he once ran for 386 yards in a single game. Still, questions lingered about the competition he faced at SDSU and some thought that the Indianapolis Colts made a mistake by taking the running back with the second overall pick in the 1994 draft. But after Faulk ran for more than 1,200 yards and was named NFL Rookie of the Year, the critics were silenced. Faulk played four more seasons for the Colts before being traded to the St. Louis Rams. As part of “The Greatest Show on Turf,” Faulk put together one of the best seasons in NFL history with more than 1,000 yards both on the ground and through the air, and he helped give the Rams their first-ever Super Bowl victory. Faulk continued to rack up incredible numbers until a knee injury cut his brilliant career short. Even so, it seems likely that the Pro Football Hall of Fame will soon call his name. Marshall Faulk now serves as an analyst on the NFL Network.
