As an offensive tackle in the NFL for 13 seasons, Wright made it to six Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, the only team for which he ever played. Among the honors bestowed upon him after retiring in 1979 was induction into numerous Halls of Fame, including the Georgia Sports, Texas Black Sports, Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and then in 2006 the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Since hanging up his cleats, Wright has devoted himself to working with inner city youth, and he has also served on the Juvenile Supreme Court in Arizona.
