Some people are quick to point out that Thurman Thomas and the Buffalo Bills lost four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s, but that really shouldn’t overshadow the incredible career of the running back or the unprecedented run of the Bills. A native of Houston, Thurman Thomas attended Oklahoma State University, where he shared the backfield with the great Barry Sanders. A knee injury caused Thomas to slide down to the second round of the NFL Draft and he proved to be a huge bargain for the Bills. Thomas won the NFL MVP Award in 1991, went to five Pro Bowls and was named as a member of the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team. And remember if Scott Norwood hadn’t missed a last-second field goal in Super Bowl XXV, then the Bills would have won and Thomas surely would have been named Super Bowl MVP. But the kick sailed wide, and the Bills lost the next three Super Bowl appearances. Even so, Thomas’ 12,074 rushing yards ranks him up there with the best to ever play the game, and he was rightfully inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
