Former New York Jets great Wesley Walker is undoubtedly one of the most underrated receivers in the history of the NFL. While his credentials perhaps don’t merit a Pro Football Hall of Fame induction, he was certainly one of the game’s best in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After playing his college ball at the University of California, the Jets took Walker with the 33rd pick in the 1977 NFL Draft. Just one year later, Walker led the NFL with 1,169 receiving yards and he was selected for the NFL Pro Bowl. Walker played 13 productive seasons for the Jets with more than 8,000 receiving yards to rank second in team history. Those accomplishments on their own make him a great player, but they are truly impressive when you consider that Walker was legally blind in one eye. It’s no coincidence that the Jets were 3-11 in each of the three seasons before Walker emerged as a star, and that they made the playoffs four times with him on the roster. Since retiring from football, Walker became a teacher at a New York elementary school.
